Tom Tom Founders Festival is a nonprofit based in Charlottesville, VA that hosts dozens of diverse events throughout year that catalyze the formation of creative, civic, and entrepreneurial ventures. Tom Tom’s signature initiative is the weeklong Founders Festival in April. In 2017, Tom Tom’s program attendance exceeded 44,925 and showcased over 400 community organizations. All programming serves the purpose of  furthering Tom Tom’s mission of celebrating purpose-driven founding and fostering inclusive innovation in small cities.

Job Description

The Associate Director plays a central leadership role at Tom Tom by tracking projects and deadlines throughout the organization, including programming, marketing, sponsorship, and production. The Associate Director will work closely with the Festival Director to manage the Board and marketing, partnerships and programming teams to vision, develop, and execute diverse Tom Tom events. The Associate Director will encourage the team, maintain sensitive and important relationships, facilitate communication throughout the organization, and keep a cool head while managing multiple projects simultaneously.


The goal for the Associate Director is to professionalize and upgrade Tom Tom’s capacity, taking the organization through an exciting era of growth when many Virginia-wide and national opportunities are being presented.

Core Responsibilities


  • Organization & Communication: Management of organization-wide projects, tasks and deadlines. Facilitate regular staff & board meetings to achieve project outcomes. Work closely with the Director to assist with budget preparation, requesting quotes, invoices, monitoring, and grant reports.
  • Sponsorship & Development: Work with Director and Partnerships Manager to coordinate 120+ existing sponsorship relationships, and develop new relationships. Generate executive memos and contracts. Work with Partnerships Manager to ensure sponsor deliverables.
  • Strategic Vision Implementation: Work with Director to ensure ongoing growth of festival. Cultivate relationships for marketing and programming objectives. Work with Marketing Manager to ensure communications reflect mission and key objectives.
  • Programming Coordination: Ensure programs have clear goals and metrics of success. Ensure program managers have developed marketing strategies and production plan, and have communicated  program information with participants, sponsors, and partners.



  • Minimum 3-5 years experience required
  • Strong writing and communication skills for grants, executive memos, appeals and reports required.
  • Project Management experience with teams of 10+ is preferred.
  • Tech literate and digital native to a high degree
  • Experience with CRMs or Salesforce is preferred
  • Experience working directly with donors to solicit gifts is preferred
