Tom Tom Founders Festival is a nonprofit based in Charlottesville, VA that hosts dozens of diverse events throughout year that catalyze the formation of creative, civic, and entrepreneurial ventures. Tom Tom’s signature initiative is the weeklong Founders Festival in April. In 2017, Tom Tom’s program attendance exceeded 44,925 and showcased over 400 community organizations. All programming serves the purpose of  furthering Tom Tom’s mission of celebrating purpose-driven founding and fostering inclusive innovation in small cities.

Job Description


The Communications Manager works extensively with the Director, the Marketing Manager, three marketing interns, and the Programming Team to develop entertaining and informative content across the Festival’s communication channels– both inbound and outbound. These channels include social, email, print, press, blog posts, and advertising, as well as internal memos and newsletters.

Tom Tom programming is extensive and varied, so innate curiosity about the creative ecosystem of Charlottesville and a sophisticated awareness of larger national trends are integral parts of the job. Ability to write succinct and catchy copy is a must, as is having the ability to understand and implement strategic marketing objectives.

Core Responsibilities


Copy Writing & Marketing

    • Coordinate with Marketing Manager on social media presence
    • Write and maintain up-to-date content on website and other social network channels



  • Engage strategically with Marketing Plan and larger organization objectives
  • Develop and gather metrics for success based on marketing data
  • Generate engaging and lively advertising content (articles, scripts, headlines, summaries, call-to-actions, etc.) for print, video, online, billboard, website, and radio


Researching & Reporting

  • Researches, interviews, writes, edits and proofreads advocacy pieces arising out of Tom Tom programming
  • Produce the annual report and other brochures and reports throughout the year



  • Supports Marketing Department initiatives, events, programs and campaigns, including off-site events
  • Participate in discussion for existing and proposed events.
  • Cultivate the partner and promotional networks in Charlottesville and beyond

Education & Experience


  • Proficiency in Google Drive suite of tools
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Professional experience in copywriting and branding campaigns preferred
  • Experience in executing branding campaigns preferred.
  • Event experience is a plus



The salary for this position is $31,000 – $36,000, depending on overtime and experience. There are 2 weeks paid vacation.
