Marketing Manager

The Marketing Manager will work most closely with the Festival Director and Associate Director. The Marketing Manager will also work with the Communications Coordinator, the Operations Coordinator, three Programming Coordinators, and multiple Fellows, to vision, develop, and execute diverse Tom Tom marketing initiatives.

Tom Tom Founders Festival

Tom Tom Founders Festival is a nonprofit based in Charlottesville, VA that hosts dozens of diverse events throughout year in order to catalyze the formation of creative, civic, and entrepreneurial ventures. Tom Tom’s signature initiative is the weeklong Founders Festival in April. In 2016, Tom Tom had attendance of over 38,000, seeded more than $1.5M to new ventures, and showcased more than 400 community organizations.

Since 2012, Tom Tom has hosted more than 110,000 attendees at its events. All programing serves the purpose of furthering Tom Tom’s mission of celebrating founding, connecting resources and leaving legacies of art and commerce beyond the Festival.

Job Description

The Marketing Manager plays a central communications role at Tom Tom by managing all outbound materials throughout the organization, including social media, website, newsletter, and more.

The Marketing Manager will work most closely with the Festival Director and Associate Director. The Marketing Manager will also work with the Communications Coordinator, the Operations Coordinator, three Programming Coordinators, and multiple Fellows, to vision, develop, and execute diverse Tom Tom marketing initiatives.

The manager will intuitively understand how to encourage the team, take initiative, maintain sensitive and important relationships, facilitate communication throughout the organization, and keep a cool head while managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Core Responsibilities

Strategy

  • With Director of Festival, develop and execute the 2017 marketing plan.
  • Develop and maintain marketing budget, design timeline, and media partnerships.
  • With Programming Coordinators, develop and execute ticketing strategies for various Festival events.
  • Plan and oversee execution of yearly content strategy for web and social media.

 

Analytics

  • Review, report, and produce action plans based on Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and Mailchimp reports.
  • Conduct audience surveys before, during, and after Festival events.
  • Analyze survey results and social audience statistics to refine Tom Tom’s marketing efforts.

 

Media & Partner Coordination

  • Initiate and support relationships between Tom Tom and partner organizations’ communications teams.
  • Build media and stakeholder lists. Engage with media around work.
  • Issue press releases and field inquiries. Facilitate day-of presence for media at events.

 

Communications

  • Work with communications manager to coordinate social media presence. Regularly track and report on engagement.
  • Maintain up to date content on website and all other channels.

 

Design Coordination

  • Oversee website updates and communicate feature requests to Tom Tom’s web developer.
  • Manage designers to produce  assets for print and social channels.
  • Manage photographers and videographers for promotional pieces and day-of coverage
  • Manage various communication deliverables, including annual report, a variety of email communications, video clips, press releases and blogs, fact sheets, and infographics.

 

Programming Development

  • Act as sounding board for programming and production coordinators on existing and proposed events.
  • Facilitate new programming connections — ie. bands, speakers, artists.

 

Reporting & Grantwriting

  • Prepare reports for partners and sponsors.
  • Research and apply for grants.
  • Develop and gather metrics for success based on marketing data.

 

Education & Experience

  • Marketing experience desired, preferably in an events context.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to write succinctly and quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and connect to various audiences.
  • Experience with digital ad platforms on Facebook, Google, and Twitter needed.
  • Experience with WordPress website platform a plus.
  • Experience utilizing contact management software preferred.
  • Skills in basic graphics and video editing a plus.
  • Experience creating eye-catching data visualizations and infographics a plus.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $33,000 – $39,000, depending on overtime and experience. There are 2 weeks paid vacation, and ACAC membership.
