Playful urbanism reimagines eight public parking spaces as stages, art installations, and environmental amenities. Presented by AIA Central Virginia, the event intends to transform a block of parking spaces into an interactive series of playful activities focused on the importance and impact of design and architecture in our everyday lives.

With a “start to finish” motive, this year’s installation, the Pop-Up Playground will allow individuals to participate in each activity along the course while engaging with local architects and designers from the Central Virginia American Institute of Architects (AIA) and students from UVA’s chapter of American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS).  Designed by this team, the playground’s participants will be encouraged to challenge their design skills and compositional thinking.

By creating this active environment, the Pop-Up Playground will further enliven the edge of the festival and bring more awareness of the local design profession to the community.
