Tom Tom Founders Festival

Tom Tom Founders Festival is a nonprofit based in Charlottesville, VA that hosts dozens of diverse events throughout year that catalyze the formation of creative, civic, and entrepreneurial ventures. Tom Tom’s signature initiative is the weeklong Founders Festival in April. In 2017, Tom Tom’s program attendance exceeded 44,925 and showcased over 400 community organizations. All programming serves the purpose of  furthering Tom Tom’s mission of celebrating purpose-driven founding and fostering inclusive innovation in small cities.

Job Description


The Project Manager plays a central coordinating role at Tom Tom by tracking projects and deadlines throughout the organization, including programming, sponsorship, and production.

The Project Manager will work most closely with the Festival Director. The Manager will also work with the Marketing Manager, the Operations Coordinator, three Programming Coordinators, and multiple interns, to vision, develop, and execute diverse Tom Tom events in music, art, and innovation.

The manager will intuitively understand how to encourage the team, take initiative, maintain sensitive and important relationships, facilitate communication throughout the organization, and keep a cool head while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Core Responsibilities


Organization & Communication

  • Management of organization-wide projects, tasks and deadlines
  • Maintain notes from meetings, draft regular internal communications
  • Facilitate regular staff & board meetings to achieve project outcomes
  • Work closely with the Director to assist with budget preparation, requesting quotes, invoices, monitoring, and grant reports


Sponsorship & Strategic Partnerships

  • Work on Sponsorship Database and facilitate communication and asks to various corporate and municipal partners


Programming Coordination

  • Where playing a lead role: set program goals and participants, collaborate on marketing strategies and production plan, communicate program information with participants, sponsors, and partners
  • Where playing an assisting role: ensure Programming Coordinators exchange information with Production, Volunteer, and Marketing Coordinators as well as Tom Tom’s design team, vendors, and venues


Operations (Spring & Fall Events)

  • Work with Production and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure efficiencies
  • Manage multiple events and coordinate on-site execution of events



  • Related project and program management experience desired, preferably in events, community organizing, arts administration, and/or economic development
  • Superior research, analytical and writing skills
  • Tech literate and digital native to a high degree
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • A self-starter who thrives in a rapidly changing environment and excels at working with a diverse team of colleagues



The salary for this position is $33,000 – $39,000, depending on overtime and experience. There are 2 weeks paid vacation.
